Not a seven but just as old and fun.Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Post Search for other posts by Report to Moderator        IP Address Go to the top of this page

Hey guys, I picked up a Saab 900 last month, Got the car up on cardomain. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2092697

At first I was going to make a nice daily driver out of it. But the more my buddy and I dug into it, the more I desided to make it a race car. Now I have plans on making it a rally/autocross/solo II/street car out of it. its got a 4 speed and a 2.0 4 cylinder in it. and its got a bunch of first for me, such as a reverse mounted engine and trans, and the bosch k-jet mechanical fuel injection. should be fun to see what we can come up with.
Ive got a turbo exhuast and intake that should be on the way (having trouble with this guy on ebay. doesnt want to respond back to my inqurys about shipping and payments.)

But anyway, thought Id show off my new baby. Anybody got some experiance, or knowledge to share about this car please pass it along.
And as always Ill keep you guys posted on the progress.

At the moment, the hood and roof have been sanded and primed. just waiting do see how muck its going to cost for a new pass. door and front fender.

Adam

I had a used '77 SAAB 99 in the early '80s (pretty much the same car as a 900). It had a great engine and was comfortable to drive, but parts and repairs were mega-expensive and pretty much limited to the dealer. It's worst feature was rust, and as you probably get as much salt on the roads in Michigan as we do in Ontario, keep a really good watch on the rocker panels and door bottoms.

well, one door has got a pretty big rust hole, but the rocker panels are fine. The hood has a small hole that Im going to bondo. The right fender is pretty rusted out where it meets the hood. Im probably going to replace that and the door, just need to find it cheap somewhere.
needs new brakes to, so Im looking into options for upgrading those.
I guess alot of stuff is interchangable. And Ive found some good stuff at a good price so far, but I know where its going to get expensive.

But it will be fun and a nice learning experience until I get another Rx-7.
Anyway, Ill keep posting as I go long making this car.

k-jet is easy to modd. it probbaly has a boost cut swich like volvos. easy fix, just disconect the vacume line that goes to it and cap the line. your cold start injector can be used for extra fuel. get a hobbs swich or simmalar boost activated swich(that fuel cut swich you just disconnected) adjust it to kick in richt before your stock system runs lean. go to turbobricks.com, you can get a bunch of good info in k-jet.

Thanks Boost Ill check that Out.
Carl, just when I was looking to start a thread, good timing.
Im looking to start rebuilding the engine and trans. I got rid of the jeep and while I was driving this car from work to home, the trans fell out of gear and would not go back into gear, any gear at all for that matter. Not sure if this the clutch or something else. Not really worry though, I had enough money to pick up a neon for real cheap, and in damn good shape, Just a little rust is all, use to that.
Anyway, we got it back to my friends house, and got everything off to drop it out of the bottom of the car. We have jacks, but nothing to hoist the engine out, it seems that with a little fenagaling, it will slide out, jsut need to raise the car high enough. THen its off the rebuild land.
I work for Belle Tire, so I get lots of quality products at cost, which is nice, but Im not sure of everything Im going to need for a good engine rebuild.
Any suprises, tips or tricks on some tricky things that you can share, and Im sure Ill be coming back with more questions later.

Hey Spy, If your old car is available for about $100.00, and you don't pick up on it, I will.

Seriosly, if it's available for that kinda price-and it's still drivable- Il'd be very interested. PM me.

George

WEll, I unfortunitly have to call this thread dead. I went to the army recruiting office not to long ago and Im going to be shipped out to boot camp at the end of the month. 63B, light wheeled mechanic.
So the cars getting scrapped and the engine, trans and related parts are going to my friends brother to take to his vocational school to play with. But I will be getting another 7 as soon as Im stationed and get my signing bonus.
